    Western Engineering students placed first overall in the University category of the Connections Competition at the Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE) Discovery Conference in Toronto this week. The team from Western, who partnered with the City of London, presented their design project of a cable-stayed pedestrian bridge.

    The Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE) announced at its Discovery conference that it will be honouring David J. McFadden QC, a Gowlings partner and prominent energy lawyer, with the establishment of an annual innovation award in his name: the David McFadden Energy Entrepreneur Challenge.

    Western Engineering students Rob Volcko, Thomas Zolis, Emily Keyes, Marco Furano and Arthur Gonzales placed first overall in the university category of the Connections Competition at the Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE) Discovery Conference in Toronto this week. The team, who partnered with the City of London, presented their fourth-year design project of a cable-stayed pedestrian bridge at Talbot and Bathurst streets.

  • May 28, 2013 – Carleton NewsroomCarleton Students Sweep Council of Ontario Universities’ IDeA Competition
    Carleton took home the top three prizes at the 2013 Ontario Universities’ IDeA Competition, held at Discovery. A 3D printer that produces a lower-cost, more functional prosthetic hand won the top prize in the Council of Universities’ (COU) Innovative Designs for Accessibility (IDeA) student competition, designed to break down barriers to accessibility for persons with disabilities.

    On Tuesday, the Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE) and the Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF) announced they will be investing in up to 10 projects over the next two years. OCE and CYBF made the announcement at the OCE Discovery conference in Toronto.

    A navigation system that will alert users with visual disabilities to obstacles in their environment and a wheelchair seat that adjusts to help users reach higher cupboards are designs from some of the finalists of the Council of Ontario Universities' (COU) annual Innovative Designs for Accessibility (IDeA) student competition. The nine finalists will showcase their inventions at the Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE) Discovery conference on May 27 at 5:15 p.m.
