Featured Keynote Speaker: Chad Hurley
Discovery welcomes Chad Hurley to Toronto for the first time as the conference's Featured Keynote presentation. Hurley will appear in conversation with Amanda Lang, CBC television's senior business correspondent and host of The Exchange.
Chad Hurley began his career in eBay's PayPal division. While working there in 2005 he and two colleagues co-founded YouTube with Hurley briefly serving as CEO. The massive and immediate success of the video sharing platform lead to interest from investors and buyers, and in 2006 the startup was sold to Google for an estimated $1.65 billion.
After the sale of YouTube, Hurley co-founded AVOS Systems and is currently the CEO of MixBit, a social media video creation and sharing site.
Hosting Hurley's keynote session is Amanda Lang, one of Canada's leading business journalists and author of the 2012 book, The Power of Why, which examines how basic curiosity and asking the right questions can power innovation and foster change in business and our personal lives.
Day One Keynote Speaker: Eric Ries
Eric Ries, whose game-changing approach to entrepreneurship and innovation-driven business growth was documented in a New York Times bestseller on the lean startup movement will be Discovery 2015's Day One keynote speaker.
Ries will appear in an interactive, moderated session remotely and give Discovery attendees a rare chance to learn and ask questions about the movement he pioneered.
Ries (@ericries) authored The Lean Startup: How Constant Innovation Creates Radically Successful Businesses in 2011 and the namesake movement it spawned has revolutionized the way business development is managed by effectively doing more with less and making smarter decisions.
In 2007, BusinessWeek named Ries one of the Best Young Entrepreneurs of Tech. Today he serves on the advisory board of a number of technology startups and venture capital firms.
Ries is part of the faculty of Singularity University, which is also represented at Discovery this year by Day One featured speakers Neil Jacobstein and David Roberts on April 27.
